Treatments for ARMD

ARMD or age-related macular degeneration is an eye condition that causes damage to your macular and affects your central vision. To improve vision due to ARMD, your doctor may recommend any of the following procedures:

Lucentis Injection

LUCENTIS® injection is a prescription medicine injected into the eye for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration. A patient with age-related macular degeneration can have increased amounts of a protein called VEGF-A, which can lead to leakage of small blood vessels in the affected eye. LUCENTIS blocks this protein and has been found to significantly improve the vision of the affected eye.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an outpatient procedure used to treat wet ARMD. During this procedure, your doctor will inject verteporfin, a light-sensitive medicine, into your blood. The medicine accumulates in the abnormal blood vessels beneath the macula. Laser light is then directed onto the eye to cause the verteporfin to create blood clots and block the abnormal blood vessels. By preventing the growth of abnormal blood vessels under the macular, PTD may control the progression of ARMD and further worsening of vision
